Free Enticing (and Learning) Activities for Your Young Child

We sometimes overlook the  very available, free, and wonderful activities that can be done at home.  Here are some that you may find will be perfect for some fun (and with learning included).
1. Remember the old sand box.  You do not need a formal box on the ground.  A tub full of sand will do.  Add to it a sieve, funnel, measuring cups and spoons.
When interest begins to fad, add some water--and suddenly it is a new material.  I like sand because of its fine matter.  Garen soil will also work with many utensils.
2. Perhaps that tub should be full of water.  Utensils may be the same as above.  Add a little soap detergent and suddenly bubbles.
3. Use the pantry or cupboard groceries for playing store.  Add a few sacks.  Have your child make the money out of paper.  Add more paper, markers and masking tape for signs.
4. With your child make a book of a topic of interest--perhaps it is the dog, the routine of brushing teeth, or going to the library.  Pictures can be from the camera or drawn by you and your child.  Have her dictate the text, or write it (depending on her age).
5. Have an unbirthday party.  Birthdays are only one day a year, but so loved by children.  Or have a celebration day!  Make invitations for you, the cat, friends.  Together make instant lemonade.  Let your child squeeze the lemon!
6. Sweep the porch, patio together--the use of the broom is a 'big deal' for young children.
7. Use water in a bucket, and a clean paint brush to 'paint' the outside of the house/garage or fence.
8.  If you have a chain link fence, weave ribbons, yarn, or material stripes in it.
Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
