Sequestration --It May Change the Lives of 78,000 of our Young Children

Sequestration---it should not change 78,000 young children's lives. How have we allowed this to happen?

Sequestration may mean 78,000 children who are 3 and 4 year olds no will no longer be attending Head Start preschool. Imagine being one of the parents who must explain this to your young child.

The automatic spending cuts will impact 78,000 3 and 4 year olds attending Head Start. That number includes 1,200 children in MO and 2,700 children in IL.

Granted, our politicians do need to come to terms with spending and reducing the deficit. It seems unconscionable that those children in poverty and without voices will receive the impact from automatic budget cuts.

Equal opportunity to education is something that is a basic democratic principle in our society. Why would you deny this experience to some of our youngest and most vulnerable children? This is a political issue that creates fear, uncertainty and doubt. Legislators, please evaluate the impact of your actions!
