Sam, I have a civil engineering degree from Rolla. I am a registered professional engineer in Missouri. But I have never been a practicing structural engineer and it would be inappropriate for me to assess the structural integrity of the annex. Besides, I am neck deep into this debate and my objectivity would surely be questioned. I can say this, I have sighted down the masonry course lines of the annex and all appears level and true. I see no evidence of significant mortar failure. The brick and stone appear in good shape. A couple of years back we put a new roof on the annex (which you can see from the council chamber) and we replaced the apparatus bay floor (Tao Engineering) at considerable cost.

Mr. Pace, are you an engineer qualified to judge the structural integrity of the firehouse on Delmar? I admire your passion on this issue and thought your comments at the last city council session were logically sound. If you are qualified, do you have the time and ability to cut the city a break on your fee and do the necessary work to accurately determine the building's status?
