Get there early to experience the mayhem of Free Comic Book Day.
It's the most wonderful day of the year for comic book junkies: Free Comic Book Day. Star Clipper in University City, kicked off the event a day early with a book signing and special showing of the film Tank Girl at the Tivoli Theatre. Star Clipper will feature comics from Archie, Dark Horse, DC, Image, Top Shelf, Marvel, and many more today at the store in the Delmar Loop. Get into the Halloween spirit by carving a pumpkin at Star Clipper, a shop located on the Delmar Loop. The event will be held on Saturday.
We're only days away from Halloween 2012. Have you carved a pumpkin yet? If not, don't worry! Star Clipper on the Delmar Loop will have a table of pumpkins and carving kits to help you craft your very own jack-o'-lantern. The shop, which is dubbing the event Star Clipper's Pumpkin-Carving-Palooza, will offer the pumpkins from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Pumpkins will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a news blast from the Loop Special Business District. Children under the age of 15 should be accompanied by an adult. Sure, school is back in session, but the kids don't have to be the only ones hitting the books this month.
Although Labor Day marks the last hurrah for white pants, barbeques and kids up late on a Sunday night, it is not the end of the season. Free Comic Book Day is always a cause for celebration at Star Clipper in University City. So much so, the store filmed this year's festivities. Free Comic Book Day is an annual showcase of the comics industry. Each May, publishers, suppliers and distributors produce free comics for local retailers to pass on to customers. Webster University student's film premieres Thursday in the Loop.
Webster University film student Tyler DePerro will hold the St. Louis premiere of his senior film project Thursday, May 10, at Star Clipper in the Delmar Loop. The screening of DeParro's short film SPECTACLES will begin at 7 p.m. According to wearemoviegeeks.com, SPECTACLES tells the story of a struggling actor who gets inspiration from a pair of 3D glasses his grandfather gives him. Once he puts on the glasses he has superhero powers and he is transported into three different movie scenarios. Director DePerro will be at Star Clipper to introduce the film and illustrator Marie Enger will be doing in-store drawings of audience members in a 1 of 3 movie genres styles of their choice: noir, zombie, or western, according to the web site.

For many comic shops across the country, Free Comic Book Day serves as a day to reward existing fans while introducing new readers to the hobby.
