Peace Officer Memorial Day: Have You Said Thank You?

Michael King was killed Oct. 31, 2008, while on patrol in the Delmar Loop and his killer wasn't sentenced until 2011. Last year, the STL Crane Project honored the 133 area first responders killed in the line of duty over the past 53 years with 1,000 paper cranes.  Susan King, the …

The US Supreme Court ruled in 1990 that sobriety checkpoints are legal. In essence the 5-4 majority felt that the brevity of the interaction with police was minimal and not protected by the Fourth Amendment. They felt that it was more important to give the police this power in the name of making roadways safer. While it is legal federally, but some state legislatures have outlawed the practice. …   more ›

Closing The 'Sidewalk Gap' On Delmar Blvd.

The city of Olivette and St. Louis County are working together to get a long-awaited project done near the University City border.

It has been a long time coming, but it appears Olivette is ready to fill a "sidewalk gap" along Delmar Boulevard near the University City border. The city's public works department is working with St. Louis County on a roughly $60,000 project that would put sidewalks in front of five apartment properties along the north side of Delmar Boulevard near Dumbarton Drive. The project needs the approval of the property owner in the area and the city still needs to obtain right-of-way easements, but once that happens, the county will hire a contractor, with the expectation the work will be done this summer.
