Allen is free after serving 29 years of a 95-year prison sentence.
A University City man sentenced for a brutal murder back in 1982 is now officially free, according to a report from KMOX. A three-member state appeals court panel upheld a lower court’s decision that led to his release from prison last month. KMOX reported the following quote from attorneys working with the Innocence Project: “We’re thrilled the appeals court has acted quickly to dismiss the Attorney General’s meritless appeal,” said Barry Scheck, co-director of the Innocence Project. “We are relying on Attorney General Koster to keep his word and not further delay justice for Mr. Allen and his family by further appealing today’s decision.” George Allen, 56, was convicted of the 1982 rape and murder of 31-year-old Mary Bell in her LaSalle …

The appeal process continues in the case.
Attorneys for George Allen, the University City man whose 1982 conviction for rape and murder was overturned earlier this month, told Fox 2 News Tuesday that the Allen is expected to walk out of prison today. Cole County Judge Daniel Green overturned the capital murder, rape, sodomy and first degree burglary charges against Allen on Nov. 2, after determining evidence beneficial to him was withheld. Allen was convicted of the 1982 rape and murder of Mary Bell, whose body was found inside her LaSalle Park home. See our previous coverage of Allen's case:

Allen's attorneys say Allen has served 30 years in prison for a rape and murder he did not commit. "We believed he would be home with his family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now that's uncertain," an attorney told Patch.

After 30 years in prison, freedom must have seemed close for George Allen and his family. Allen, of University City, had his murder conviction overturned by a Cole County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Green on Friday. His attorneys made a very strong case, not only that he did not receive a fair trial due to withheld evidence, but that Allen is innocent. However, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office announced it will appeal the trial court’s decision in the George Allen case. One of Allen's attorneys, Daniel Harvath of the Bryan Cave law firm, said the appeal could mean Allen is in jail for several more months. "We were in a situation where we thought George would be home with his family for Thanksgiving and Christmas," Harvath said. "Now, …

St. Louis County Police believe a third attack may be related to two rapes already linked to the same offender in the Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights area. The St. Louis County and Maryland Heights police departments hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday night at Parkway North High School to help inform residents about new developments. About 200 people attended the meeting, which included a free self-defense class led by volunteers from Midwest Krav Magra. “My 32 years of police work tells me this individual will not stop until he’s caught,” St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch told the crowd at the town hall meeting. He said he worked on the South Side Rapist case, which took 25 years to solve. “We want to get information out to people …

Claire McCaskill appeared on MSNBC Monday to discuss Todd Akin's comment on 'legitimate rape,' which she calls a 'gut-check' for Missourians.
Claire McCaskill has been quick to respond to Todd Akin's comment Sunday in an interview with Patch news partner FOX2 that aired on Sunday with Charles Jaco in which Akin suggested the female body has ways of shutting down to prevent pregnancy during a "legitimate rape." See: Rep. Todd Akin On Hot Seat Over 'Legitimate Rape' Comment in FOX2 Interview After calling Akin's comment 'offensive' and 'outrageous' in a statement released Sunday, the Missouri Senator appeared on MSNBC Monday. "For the state I love, I hope this is a moment where everyone who hasn't been paying close attention, um, this statement is kind of a window into Todd Akin's mind," McCaskill said on Morning Joe. McCaskill went onto note that Akin won the Republican primary …
U.S. Rep. Todd Akin's Sunday comments about "legitimate rape" prompt questions about definitions of rape—such as forcible/assault rape versus date rape and statutory rape—as well as whether females can get pregnant in all incidences of rape.
Is it possible for a female body to react differently to forcible sexual assaults versus date rape? Are there different "kinds" of rape? Isn't "rape" rape? U.S. Rep. Todd Akin said he misspoke about the topic in a St. Louis-based TV interview on Sunday when asked if he would support abortion in cases of rape, yet strong reactions to his interview remarks continue rumbling on Monday. Akin's comments on Sunday suggesting "legitimate rape" would not cause a woman to get pregant raced like wildfire, even causing Nate Silver, the New York Times election forecaster, to change his mind about the momentum of the related U.S. Senate race. Akin, a Wildwood Republican, is running for the Senate against incumbent Claire McCaskill. In an interview with…
