Open House on U City Projects in Maryland Heights

The open house will be held from 4-7 p.m.

The City of University City has been approved for three transportation projects through the East-West Gateway Council of Governments’ Transportation Committee for the Fiscal Year 2012-2016 Transportation Improvement Program. A public open house event will be held today from 4-7 p.m. for all proposed projects at the Maryland Heights Government Center, 11911 Dorsett Ave. Projects approved by the committee within University City involve Westgate Avenue; Canton Avenue, Old Bonhomme Road, and Jackson Avenue; and the Chamberlain Avenue Bridge. The projects are:

Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions about the project.

University City is hosting a public meeting on the Loop Trolley project at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in the auditorium of the University City Public Library, 6701 Delmar Blvd. Mayor Shelley Welsch will be running the meeting on behalf of the City. The city invited the Loop Trolley Company and the East-West Gateway Council of Governments to attend this meeting to provide additional feedback to residents on this important project, and to take questions. As I hope you know, there is a public meeting on the Loop trolley project scheduled for Wednesday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the University City Public Library. This meeting was scheduled to give residents another opportunity to ask questions about and get details on the Loop trolley project. I will be running the meeting. Representatives of the Loop Trolley Company and the East-West Gateway Council of Governments will be on hand to discuss the project. Doug R. Campion, of the Campion Group, LLC, the project manager, will also be on hand. Mr. Campion, who formerly worked with the Federal Transit Administration, recently arrived on this project and will be the person in charge of overseeing the construction of the project if and when it moves…

I cant see a ridership for the trolley. If people come from the west county they will arrive by car most likely and will want to park in the residential neighborhoods in order to take the trolley. But they would only ride a block to enjoy the shops,movie etc. and would not pay a fare for the short ride-especially if they hve children and extra expense. The younger crowd would walk . Public Meeting on Loop Trolley Is June 20

Public will have a chance to ask questions

The Loop Trolley Company will host a public meeting regarding the Loop Trolley project at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in the auditorium of the University City Public Library, 6701 Delmar Blvd. Everyone is invited to attend. East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Loop Trolley Company and project engineers will be present to answer any questions. There will be no formal presentation. The meeting comes after several residents have requested a public hearing from the city. The City of University City has been approved for three transportation projects through the East-West Gateway Council of Governments’ Transportation Committee for the Fiscal Year 2012-2016 Transportation Improvement Program.            Projects approved by the committee within University City will involve Westgate Avenue; Canton Avenue, Old Bonhomme Road, Jackson Avenue and the Chamberlain Avenue Bridge. A new traffic signal will be installed at Westgate Ave. (at Olive) to allow the street to be converted back to two way traffic and provide the fire station on Westgate with easier access to Olive. Canton, Old Bonhomme and Jackson will be restriped to create bike lanes; these streets also will include new bike signs, and the sidewalks …

Future Area Transportation Projects Presented Monday

Safety, job creation, and better transportation were cited Monday as reasons Missouri needs funding for better roads, rail and bridges.

The future needs and challenges facing Missouri’s transportation system were the subject of a public forums Monday at the Missouri Department of Transportation in Town and Country Monday. Such forums will be held across the state throughout the spring and summer. The Blue Ribbon Citizens Committee on Missouri Transportation Needs is holding the meetings. The committee was appointed by Missouri House Speaker Steven Tilley, R-Perryville, in early March. The 21-member panel consists of of business leaders, contractors and special interest groups from across the state. Members are looking for public input on future transportation needs and solutions. Loop Trolley Hearing Allows Citizens to Comment

The St. Louis History Museum hosted an informational question-and-answer session for the public concerning the Loop Trolley.

If Wednesday evening's public hearing at the Missouri History Museum is any indication, the Loop Trolley project spearheaded by Blueberry Hill owner and local business leader Joe Edwards has both supporters and skeptics. The trolley, planned for construction in 2012 and opening in 2013, will transport riders along a route running down Delmar Boulevard from Trinity Avenue by the University City Lion's Gate to DeBaliviere Boulevard in St. Louis before turning south and ending at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park.  The hearing was held due to a federal requirement that community members be able to express their opinions and ask questions during a public commenting period.
