Men Stole Copper Pipe from Vacant Apartment, Police Say

Officers said they found one man in a car with door handle and copper pipe; a second man approached and told police the car belonged to his girlfriend.

Two men face criminal charges after police said they stole copper pipes from a University City apartment Dec. 12. Edward Starr, 17, of the 8600 block of Haltonia Lane in Berkeley, and Dion Thompson, 25, of the 5800 block of Wabada Street in St. Louis, were charged Thursday with second-degree burglary. University City Police said a neighbor heard noises coming from a vacant apartment in the 6700 block of Vernon Avenue. The neighbor called police and said she heard a noise like a pipe falling. When police arrived, they saw the door to the apartment had been forced open and the screed door handle was missing. University City Police incidents from the week of Nov. 12-18.

Each week, University City Patch features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of Nov. 12-18. The department arrested 54 adults and seven juveniles. There was one robbery and seven burglaries. The reporting party stated unknown person(s) entered the lower level basement of the apartment building and removed copper piping.* During an area canvass, officers discovered an insecure rear door and damage to the door and stole copper piping.* The reporting party stated a male subject had taken his phone off the table outside of the restaurant. It was determined that the suspect who stole the phone was in the restaurant with another subject just before the incident occurred. A …
