Final U City Symphony Concert of 2012-13 Season Is Sunday

The free concert will featured winners of the 2013 William Schatzkamer Young Artists Competition.

The University City Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Leon Burke III, will perform a free concert at All Saints Church in University City on Sunday, May 19 at 3 p.m. The concert is open to the public.  “We invite everyone in the community to come hear a wonderful concert by the University City Symphony,” said Monsignor Michael Witt, pastor at All Saints, in a press release..  The Symphony selections will be Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring and William Schatzkamer’s March of the Sabra. The winners of the 2013 William Schatzkamer Young Artists Competition will also perform. Music of Wash U's William Schatzkamer Featured at His Memorial

The pianist, conductor, teacher and co-found of the Gateway Festival Orchestra died in September; his memorial service at Washington University's Graham Chapel is Nov. 10.

The program for a memorial service dedicated to Olivette's William Schatzkamer, Washington University professor emeritus of music, is coming together under the direction of his daughter, Nina Miller—also of Olivette. The memorial for the co-founder of the Gateway Festival Orchestra, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at the university's Graham Chapel. Schatzkamer, who died Sept. 12, was 96 at the time of his death. Miller said it was important to her and her family that music play a large and central role in the memorial service. "Mostly the focus is on the music," she told Patch. "It will be kind of like a concert with a combination of recorded and live music. It's very hard to cut anything because the music is all wonderful." The …

University City Symphony to Perform at All Saints

An internationally acclaimed violinist will join the symphony for the performance.

All Saints Catholic Church in University City will host a free concert by the University City Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 that will feature internationally acclaimed violinist Alejandro Drago. “We are always pleased to have the University City Symphony play at our church,” said Monsignor Michael Witt, pastor at All Saints. “We invite everyone in the community to come hear a wonderful concert.” The Symphony began playing at All Saints about 20 years ago at the urging of parishioner Elsie Glickert. Glickert was a member of the City Council of University City at the time.
