Black Friday Shopping in St. Louis to Start Earlier Than Ever in 2012

Walmart announced a Thanksgiving Day start to its sales. Target, Toys R Us, and Best Buy aren't far behind.

Serious shoppers know Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is the day for bargains. Retailers are opening earlier than ever this year with sales to entice more holiday shoppers. Home Depot started its Black Friday sales on Nov. 8.  Walmart has set the bar at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day for 2012 sales to start. Will other stores follow? Macy’s, Target and Toys R Us are among a growing number of shops kicking off Black Friday sales at midnight, the St. Louis Business Journal reports. Area mall doors will open at various times, though some of their stores may or may not be open then. Many sales haven't been announced yet. Target offers a signup to receive text messages of sales, and previews a 40-inch Toshiba TV, a Samsung laptop computer…

We got in and out with all of our video games in about 1 hour. We got some great deals and little hassle with long lines this year. Of course we avoided the big box stores. Once we left the mall and went to McDonald's it was a different story.   more ›

The Ghosts of Turkeys Past: Thanksgiving Day Disasters

The Turkey That Wouldn't Go Away I was a newlywed, cooking my first Thanksgiving dinner for extended family. My mother, my sister and myself were crowded into a tiny kitchen at our University City apartment, bumping into each other and generally getting into each other's way. Bags and boxes and pans were stacked in any available inch of space. My husband's grandmother had given us a large covered roaster pan, and for seven months, it had been taking up space in the cabinet. Now, I finally got to use it. Not well, however, as I remember the turkey was rather dry. But we could always count on my mother's dressing being perfect and the sweet potatoes having just the right amount of marshmallow topping. Inaugural Turkey Tweetup Slated for Nov. 22

The Moonrise Hotel's first Turkey Tweetup event will focus on networking and Thanksgiving Tweets.

Are you a social media buff who is looking for a little fun and a break from the standard pre-Thanksgiving rush? The Moonrise Hotel in the Delmar Loop will hold its inaugural Turkey Tweetup on Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.   The networking event is geared toward St. Louis-area professionals. Participants are encouraged to tweet about “all things Thanksgiving—what we’re thankful for, top Thanksgiving foods,” and “beloved (or on-another-planet) Thanksgiving traditions.” Lunch and drinks will be provided for attendees, who are also encouraged to bring three boxes or cans of food to donate to the Salvation Army for distribution to local shelters.
