Swept Away: Street Sweeping Proposal Pulled
Residents in private subdivisions requested that the city sweep their streets.
A request for city street sweeping on private subdivision streets was stopped before it started Monday, but that didn't stop the University City Council and several residents from spending nearly an hour on the subject. On the advice of legal council, the city decided that it was not feasible to bring the motion to a vote. However, Councilman Stephen Kraft opened discussion by asking that City Attorney Paul Martin's legal opinion be made public. "When we make decisions we want people to understand why we made the decision," Kraft said. "It is unfair to keep it secret." Sounds like Mikey hauls his own trash to the dump, plows his own street, and will handle his own police and fire needs. Maybe he should put a big sign in front of his house: government stay away. Maybe he'll start a private street sweeping service; I'm sure he can do it better. more ›
