Snow: Yes, They Really Mean It; Up to 11 Inches

We've been hoping forecasters would back off that prediction for a large spring snowfall, but they haven't.

Our hopes for a change of heart among weather forecasters have been dashed. The National Weather Service and local meteorologists are still calling for a massive winter storm to sweep over the St. Louis metro area overnight tonight. Glenn Zimmerman, meteorologist for Patch news partner FOX2, says rain should start tonight in the area at about 9 or 10 p.m., changing into snow sometime Sunday morning. He said the heaviest bursts of snowfall may be from around noon to 2 p.m. That forecast differs only slight from the storm alert from the National Weather Service: Rain will overspread the area Saturday evening. Next Winter Storm Approches; MoDOT Issues Caution

The heaviest snowfall is expected to miss St. Louis, but most of the state will get lots of precipitation.

Raindrops started to fall in St. Louis Monday night, bringing in the next round of winter weather. According to Fox 2 meteorologists, another winter storm is already on its way to Missouri. This storm will bring blizzard conditions and lots of snow to the Plains, as close as Kansas City and Columbia.   Fox 2 predicts heavy rain at times overnight. Thunderstorms are also possible. Heavy downpours could lead to some flash flooding. Rain will continue into Tuesday morning, but as colder air wraps in the rain will mix with or change to wet snow. There will be minor snow accumulation in metro St. Louis, but snow totals quickly go up as you travel west. Road Conditions Click here for MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map. Roads could be slick in the …

Is Winter Weather Coming to St. Louis?

The University City area could see the first bit of measurable snow of the season Thursday.

It may not be enough for a "White Christmas", but University City might see at least a little snow Thursday.  The National Weather Service calls for snow in the St. Louis area after 11 a.m., with accumulations only expected to be about half an inch. The wind could be a trickier problem, prompting a Wind Advisory for the area. Fox2 reports that MoDOT is ready to keep the roads clear for holiday travel. Stay Out of Flash Floods in St. Louis This Weekend, Emergency Crews Warn

St. Louis County emergency responders met Thursday morning to collectively prepare for incoming storm Isaac. They fear people will plunge into flood waters.

Once St. Louis County emergency responders heard from the National Weather Service expert Jim Kramper on Thursday morning that Tropical Depression Isaac was slowing down and may not unleash as much danger to St. Louis in the air, they immediately turned their preparations to swift water rescue planning. Somewhere between 3 to 5 inches of rainfall is expected to move slowly over St. Louis between Friday and Saturday, said Kramper. A countywide preparation session was hosted before noon at Wildwood-based Metro West Fire Protection District's command center.
