The new Italian pastry shop from the owner of Butler's Pantry is located at the corner of Delmar and Skinker.
It was a full house Monday afternoon at a grand opening party for Piccione Pastry, the new Italian pastry shop in the Delmar Loop. Piccione is located at 6197 Delmar Blvd., at the intersection of Delmar and Skinker. The menu features a variety of traditional Italian desserts including cannoli, bomboloni, tiramisu, pasticiotti and cassata cake. Biscotti and other cookies are also available. For those whose taste buds range more savory than sweet, Piccione offers three flavors of focaccia sticks. Lavazza coffee and Italian sodas will add to the European feel of the pastry shop. Good reviews for a University City favorite and lots of new restaurants coming to the Delmar Loop. BluePrint Coffee RFT's Gut Check blog reports that BluePrint Coffee is coming. The coffee shop will be in the same building as Mission Taco Joint and Chubbie's. No opening date has been announced. Piccione Pastry Update The owner of Butler's Pantry is opening a new pastry shop at the corner of Skinker and Delmar in the East Loop, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. Richard Nix plans a soft opening in April for his Italian-style pastry shop. Earlier this year it was thought the shop would be open in March. A brand new year means brand new restaurants coming to University City and the Delmar Loop. Pita Pit is coming to 6120 Delmar, near Tavolo V in the East Loop. According to the restaurant's web site, the location is "coming soon." The menu includes breakfast, lunch and dinner pitas. St. Louis Magazine recently named its 15 most anticipated restaurant openings of 2013 and University City has two very different restaurants on the list.
