Ewald Winker, parks operation superintendent for U City, will discuss the history of the parks.
The Sutter-Meyer Society will hold its annual membership meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the Julia Goldstein Early Childhood Education Center. The program will include a presentation by Ewald Winker, parks operation superintendent for University City. Winker will discuss the history of University City's parks. Free open houses at the Sutter-Meyer Farmhouse also begin this month. The farmhouse is open from 2-4 p.m. on the following dates:

Tilles Park wins the Mid-County Readers' Choice Award for having the best park in the area.
Tilles Park is this week's Readers' Choice winner for the best park in Mid-County. Readers' Choice is a friendly competition among businesses, restaurants and attractions in Mid-County Patch sites including, Clayton-Richmond Heights, Kirkwood, Maplewood-Brentwood, University City and Webster Groves. Tilles Park in St. Louis County won with 29 percent of the vote. Here's how our other nominees placed: Congratulations to Tilles Park for winning this week's Readers' Choice battle. Readers' Choice will be on hiatus next week, but it will return June 18 with a new twist. Stay tuned!

Movie series to kick-off with “American Graffiti” April 21 at Heman Park .
The free ‘Movies in the Park’ series is back by popular demand, and, this year, movie screenings won’t be limited to just summer months. The 2012 movie series will run from spring to fall and will feature movies that were selected by residents and follow the theme of “Coming of Age.” A screening of the film “American Graffiti” April 21 at Heman Park will kick-off the 2012 ‘Movies in the Park’ series. The final film of the series will be screened Oct. 13, and the movie will be determined by a “Viewer’s Choice” vote among residents. Proposed changes to the laws governing St. Louis County farmer's markets received brief attention Tuesday in Clayton during a meeting of the County Council. "I think there's some concerns from my point of view for the safety," said Robert Menendez, the owner of Sunset 44 Bistro & Banquet in Kirkwood. The third-generation restaurateur said that while he shops at farmers markets, he wants the council to look into health and safety rules as they relate to the on-site preparation of food. He said dogs and other animals walk around at markets. He also asked what type of insurance markets would be required to carry and who would audit that plan under a proposed seven-month market season.
