Mother of Biker Killed in U City Pleads for Road Safety

The mother of Samuel Scott, the 19-year-old bicyclist killed by a drunk driver in 2012, spoke Monday.

Be brave like Sam. That was the message from Samuel Scott's mother Susan Monday as she urged motorists and cyclists alike to be careful on the roads. Samuel Scott, 19, was killed Feb. 3, 2012, as he rode his bicycle home down Delmar from his job at Dewey's Pizza. Emily C. Hagan, 30, of Kirkwood was sentenced in March to three years in prison.  As previously reported, police say Hagan had a blood alcohol content of 0.262, more than three times the legal limit. Susan Scott urged caution for motorists and bicyclists when she spoke Monday outside the Missouri History Museum. She said being brave included taking keys away from friends who shouldn't be driving and telling a driver not to text while they are behind the wheel.  Scott was in St. …

What if you live on Delmar, riding your bike home from work, a few blocks away, as Sam was? One should be able to do this without losing one's life. Delmar was never the problem, and didn't cause his death. You are right that no one should drive drunk.   more ›

MoDOT Hoping to Improve Traffic Flow on Olive Boulevard

The major east-west roadway runs from Chesterfield in West County all the way to the eastern edge of University City.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is looking to improve the traffic flow on Olive Boulevard, a road that has likely been the source of many a frustrated commute for St. Louis County drivers. The east-west street stretches from Chesterfield on one end to University City on the other, and MoDOT officials recently told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Ride Guy that they have hired a consultant to examine how its 47 traffic signals can be better synchronized. The move follows the completion of improvements to allow Highway 141 in Chesterfield to carry more traffic. MoDOT spokeswoman Linda Wilson Horn said the study will likely result in a few seconds being added to green lights throughout Olive Boulevard, according to the Post-…

There needs to be signs posted at the Eager Rd (left lane for Eager Rd EAST / middle lane Target Promenade & Eager Rd EAST / right lane Eager Rd WEST) at the exit heading South from 170. There are two lanes but everyone exits on the right lane onto Eager and cuts everyone off in the left lane to go EAST on Eager. The signs should be hung along the side of the 40 West overpass. Thank you!   more ›
