Shop Locally in U City on Small Business Saturday

Start your holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is today—Saturday, Nov. 24. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in University City. Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities. Indie Book Store's Days May be Numbered

The owner of Subterranean Books has announced the store could close if sales don't pick up.

"We have 5 months to turn our sales around or else we're out of business Sept 1," Von Plonski wrote on the book store's Facebook Page. Selection at the store isn't a problem. With everything from the classics to current bestsellers and from literature anthologies to humor writing, Subterranean has book lovers covered. "What we need is more people in the store buying books," Von Plonski said in a phone …
