U City Teen Steals Firearms, Jewelry From Neighbor, Police Say

The man is charged with stealing two handguns and an assault rifle in a Nov. 2 burglary.

A 17-year-old University City man stole firearms and jewelry from a neighbor in a burglary Nov. 2 in the 800 block of Wild Cherry Lane, police said. Cody Homeyer, 17, also of the 800 block of Wild Cherry Lane in U City, was charged Saturday with second-degree burglary, felony stealing and three counts of stealing a firearm. University City Police said Homeyer broke into the home and stole a .357 Magnum Smith and Wesson revolver, a 9 mm Taurus semi-automatic pistol, an S&S semi-automatic assault rifle, and jewelry, including a 14-carat white gold band, a fake Tiffany bracelet and two men’s watches. Man Charged With Burglarizing U City Home Thursday

The defendant also faces burglary charges in Wellston, according to court documents.

A man was charged with burglarizing a University City home on Thursday. Matvey Kovalenko, 26, of the 1300 block of Hickory Hill in South County near Arnold, was charged Friday with second-degree burglary and felony stealing. University City Police said Kovalenko broke into a home in the 7000 block of Kingsbury Avenue in University City at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday and stole a jewelry box. The jewelry’s combined value is more than $500, police said. Kovalenko also faces separate charges for burglarizing a home in Wellston on Dec. 28. Bond was set at $50,000.
