Shooting Victim Freeman Was a Promising Boxer

Preston Freeman, 20, was shot outside Club Escalade in University City. He later died of his wounds at an area hospital.

The young man shot outside Club Escalade late Wednesday night was a promising boxer. Preston Freeman, 20, died Thursday at an area hospital.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Freeman was scheduled to have a four-round welterweight bout Friday in Redwood City, CA. A fight started inside the club and continued into the parking lot, University City Sgt. Fredrick Lemons told the Post. He said that "numerous" people were involved in the fight. According to KMOV, multiple shell casings were found at the scene. Three black males were seen leaving the scene, driving a maroon Chevy Impala East on Olive, according to Fox 2. U City Police ID Victim of Shooting on Olive Blvd.

The man was shot outside Club Escalade in University City. He later died of his wounds at an area hospital.

The man shot outside of Club Escalade on Olive Blvd. has died from his wounds. Preston Freeman, 20, was shot around midnight Wednesday night and later died of his wounds. See our previous story: KMOV: Man Shot Wednesday Night on Olive According to KMOV, one man was injured in the parking lot at 7820 Olive Blvd. Multiple shell casings were found at the scene although it is still unclear as to how many times the victim was shot. Three black males were seen leaving the scene, driving a maroon Chevy Impala East on Olive, according to Fox 2. University City Police are continuing to investigate. Report: Man Shot, Killed at Renee's Bar Friday Night

KMOV reports Cameron Smith was shot in the chest.

3:15 p.m. update: Renee's has moved to the 5800 block of Delmar, just outside University City in St. Louis. Our original story: A 33-year-old man was shot in the chest inside Renee's Bar and Grill in University City, KMOV reports. Police say Cameron Smith was shot in the chest around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died. Reports say that the suspect fled through the front door of the business. Fox 2 News reports that there are leads in the case. The investigation is ongoing.

Two Months Later, Police Continue Search for Destinee Clemons' Killer

University City police have promising leads, but still welcome crime tips regarding the ongoing investigation into the June drive-by shooting.

Last Wednesday marked two months since the death of 17-year-old Destinee Clemons, who was shot while sitting on the front porch of her Plymouth Avenue home. A drive-by shooter killed Clemons and injured Jerry′Ka McCauley, her 23-year-old sister, on June 22. McCauley was struck in the arm and her wound was not serious. In the days following the shooting, police confirmed that a red 2012 Toyota Corolla recovered in the early morning hours of June 22 was the vehicle used in the commission of the homicide. No arrests have yet been made in the case. University City Police Capt. Michael Ransom told Patch detectives continue their investigation into the shooting. U City Police: Car Recovered from Shooting

University City Police continue to look for suspects.

University City Police investigators have confirmed that the red 2012 Toyota Corolla that was recovered in the early morning hours of June 22 was the vehicle used in the commission of the homicide of 18-year-old Destinee Clemons. Clemons was shot and killed on her front porch on Plymouth Ave. around 8 p.m. Thursday night. Her sister, 23-year-old Jerry′Ka McCauley, was sitting next to her and was struck in the arm. McCauley's wound was not serious. According to University City Capt. Michael Ransom, police are seeking  specific persons of interest who have material information regarding this incident. Missouri's Black Homicide Rate Worst in U.S.

For the second time, Missouri is No. 1 in a list ranking states with the highest black homicide victimization rates.

Missouri leads the nation in homicides involving black victims for the second year in a row with a rate seven times higher than the national average. The Violence Policy Center released a study ranking Missouri first out of the 50 states in a list of black homicide victimization rates. In Missouri, 34.72 per 100,000 black people are victims of homicide, according to the study. Firearms, especially handguns, are overwhelmingly the weapons of choice in homicides, according to the study. Eighty-seven percent of black homicide victims were killed with guns in 2009, the year with the most recent data available. Of the 239 black homicide victims in Missouri in 2009, 206 were male and 33 were female. In St. Louis, 125 of the 143 homicides in 2009…
