The St. Louis Cardinal icon and baseball hall of fame outfielder passed away Saturday night.
Stan Musial, a giant in the St. Louis community and the baseball world for more than half a century, died Saturday at his home in Ladue. "Stan the Man passed peacefully at home at 5:45 pm tonight of natural causes. Life will never be the same without baseball's perfect knight," his grandson, Brian Musial Schwarze said via Twitter Saturday evening. Musial was 92 and had been in poor health in recent years. Musial, who entered baseball's Hall of Fame in 1969, played 22 years for the St. Louis Cardinals, amassing 3,630 hits and 24 All-Star Game appearances in a career full of superlatives. The Baseball Writers Association of America will announce 2013 Hall of Fame Class at 1 p.m. on the MLB Network. St. Louis and Missouri are home to several Hall of Fame baseball players. And Florissant even has a few that call the city home.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch Hall of Fame baseball writer Rick Hummel reports the most anticipated Baseball Hall of Fame election in history will culminate this afternoon with the announcement of the vote on this year’s class by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Who will get in—better yet, who will be left out from this class—has been the subject of debate for years. Among those eligible for the first time: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, Craig Biggio and Sammy Sosa. The 2013 Hall of Fame Class will be announced live on the MLB Network at 1 p.m. CST. The Hall of Fame Induction Class is the first ever for the coaches association.
The Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association will hold its first ever banquet and Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, Jan. 5 in Columbia. A 12:30 p.m. luncheon is scheduled at the Cherry Hills Banquet Center in Columbia. Eleven Missouri coaches will be inducted into the first class, along with two posthumous inductions, the late greats Ebbie Dunn (SLUH) and Bob Horgan (CBC).
