The Habitat for Humanity homes built in University City in 2012 received landscaping on Friday.
Five months after holding a dedication, the owners of University City's first five Habitat for Humanity houses got to celebrate spring by landscaping their homes. On Friday, volunteers from the U.S. Navy recruting offices in St. Louis and Fairview Heights, IL, planted trees and shrubs at the homes in the Bartmer and Kingsland area. Ten trees for the homes were purchased by USAgain, a textile recycling company. “We’re proud to provide trees to be planted at Habitat for Humanity’s houses in St. Louis,” says Mattias Wallander, CEO of USAgain, in a press release. “Considering their social initiatives and goals of sustainability, our decision to partner with Habitat for Humanity to plant trees in St. Louis was an easy and natural one. Five families will receive the keys to their new homes at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.
After months of planning and construction, five families will have a new home to call their own on Thursday. Habitat for Humanity will dedicate its five newest homes at 11 a.m. Thursday at the build site at Bartmer and Kingsland in University City. The homes were built to LEED Platinum standards. Each home is a four bedroom, 1.5 bath, two story home. These are the first Habitat homes in U City. A mother's hard work goes into buying new home.
Being a single mother, employee and student, Superior Robinson is a busy woman. However, she has also been hard at work to complete 350 hours of labor required on building a new house she is buying. Robinson and her three daughters, Aniyah Chambley, Kenirah and Kyah Robinson, are one of five families moving to University City’s first homes built through Habitat for Humanity. She is excited for the new house to be completed, but Robinson said the move will be a drastic change since her family will no longer live in the city or next to bars, so there will be a more peaceful atmosphere. “For me the change is going to be different from staying in public housing to owning your own home,” Robinson said. “Basically not following someone else’s …

A-B Employees to work on homes under construction in University City and Carondelet on Saturday.
On Saturday, July 14, more than 160 Anheuser-Busch employees and family members will roll up their sleeves for an exclusive “Builder Day” where for one day, they will take over Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis builds in University City and Carondelet. As part of its first-ever builds in these neighborhoods, Habitat Saint Louis is constructing five homes in each community. Each of these homes is being constructed to meet LEED platinum standards. The Anheuser-Busch Foundation, a 2012 Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis Build Sponsor, has donated $67,000 to help fund the builds.
