Local Voices: Zoning Out, Garbage Bag Fairytales and Good Luck, Atlanta

"Patch" had several St. Louis-area editors to nominate their favorite posts from Local Voices bloggers. After an overwhelming response, we've narrowed it down to the top seven.

Most Patch readers know that I’m a huge fan of our Local Voices bloggers. But many don’t realize that I’m not the only one—in fact, many of our St. Louis area editors feel the same way. That’s why this week, I asked my colleagues to nominate their favorite posts for the week. I got an overwhelming response, and to be honest, there isn’t enough space to share them all with you here, so I’ve narrowed it down a bit. Check out seven of the most interesting, entertaining and/or useful posts we found around Patchland this week. As you might know, this is only a very small cross-section of the Patch Local Voices blogger population. Which blog posts did you enjoy this week? Share your favorites in the comments section, below. Got something to say…

Tonight's the night! Who is going to see me model my trashy (get it?) couture at the Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala? I asked my team of volunteer designers what they learned about sewing duct tape and plastic. Here’s what they said: To see these tips in action, come to the Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala at 7 p.m. July 27 at the Moonrise Hotel in the Delmar Loop. Garbage Bag Gala: Meet My Designers

Meet the women who designed a wedding dress and a party dress totally out of garbage bags and duct tape.

Meet Sue and Karen, two of the dedicated, creative, inspiring, loving and talented women behind my garbage bag couture. Sue Thomas, of Webster Groves, and Karen Vehlewald, of Mehlville, jumped at the chance to volunteer and create two outfits out of garbage bags and duct tape for the Salvation Army’s Garbage Bag Gala, a fashion show fundraiser to prevent homelessness. Now, if you think sewing garbage bag dresses sounds a little, well, loopy, you’re not alone. “My kids and grandkids are all laughing,” said Karen, smiling. “They think grandma’s gone goofy.” When Sue and Karen heard about the Garbage Bag Gala at an American Sewers Guild meeting, they jumped at the chance to try a new challenge. “We didn’t know what we were getting into,” Sue …

Do I Look Trashy? My Garbage Bag Sundress

Editor Lindsay Toler gives a sneak peak at the garbage bag and duct tape sundress she'll be modeling at the Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala.

Who knew garbage bags and duct tape could be so...cute? As a trusty Patch editor, I'll be modeling this dress down the staircase in the lobby of the Moonrise Hotel at the Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala, a fundraiser to help the homeless and prevent homelessness. If you'd like to see me and other St. Louis locals wearing our garbage bag best, come see us in action at the Garbage Bag Gala at 7 p.m. July 27. Stay tuned for interviews with my designers! Sneak Peek: My Garbage Bag Wedding Dress

Affton Patch editor Lindsay Toler is volunteering to model trash bag couture for the Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala.

I'll be honest: I never thought I'd wear a wedding dress made out of garbage bags and duct tape! Luckily, it's not for my actual wedding. The boyfriend is still the boyfriend, not the fiance. My wedding dress is for the Salvation Army's fundraiser, the Garbage Bag Gala.  Three members of the American Sewing Guild are making me a wedding dress and a sun dress—both made from garbage bags and duct tape! So far, my talented and hilarious designers have made the bulk of my wedding dress. My train (which I think is taller than I am!) is made out of a white plastic table cloth. My veil? Clear garbage bags. I think my dress will be much more embellished by the show on July 27 at the Moonrise Hotel, but you'll have to buy a ticket to see! Check out…
