Missouri Department of Transportation officials are urging residents to get wherever they need to be and wait out the coming storm by noon. After that, they say, roads will only get worse. “The morning rush hour is going to be the best conditions we see all day,” said Becky Allmeroth, district maintenance engineer. Allmeroth said current forecasts call for a heavy band of snow to hit the metro area in a few hours. The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for University City and the metro area, with wind gusts predicted to reach up to 35 mph. Emergency officials are planning ahead as the perfect winter storm bears down on University City and Metro St. Louis. “Whatever you get, it’s going to be in a large amount,” said Jim Kramper of the National Weather Service. “We’re fairly confident this is a big storm.” Major problems are expected due to perfect storm conditions of a build-up of ice, a large amount of snow and dropping temperatures and possible power outages. Well St. Louis weathermen, you blew the forecast again. No widespread power outages. No accumulation to speak of. I live in St. Louis where they told me for two days now we were going to get 1 to 2 ft. of snow. On the ground I have two inches, two inches and the system is heading north out of the area. All those people spending all that money to prepare for a storm that didn't amount to much. …   more ›
