Construction begins on new addition at Jackson Park Elementary School.
Parents and students at Jackson Park Elementary will have to make some adjustments as construction begins on a new addition to the school. In a letter to parents, Associate Principal Christine Powers said the back of the building will be fenced off to keep the students safe from the construction area, which will house trucks and other pieces of equipment. The fenced area will only be accessible to construction workers. Powers said for the remainder of the school year, much of the blacktop will be off limits. She also said the back doors will not be used for the remainder of the school year. This includes the "Boys" and "Girls" doors as well as the gymnasium doors. Fifth-grader Caleb Perkins correctly spelled "Autumn" to win his school's spelling bee.
Taller than the other students, fifth-grader Caleb Perkins had to raise the microphone stand every time he walked to center stage. A walk he made several times on Wednesday until he was the last person standing at the Delmar-Harvard Elementary School Spelling Bee. He won by correctly spelling the word 'Autumn.' His main competitor was fourth-grader Gage McGinnis, who was sidelined after incorrectly spelling 'gentlemen.'

Annual event raises funds and and tests the brainpower of University City Patch Editor Myra Lopez.
Pizza, popcorn and a pop quiz. About 70 students gathered in the cafeteria at Flynn Park Elementary School on Friday for Kids Trivia Night. The University City Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) sponsored the event. The kids were so excited, writing down their answers and trying to mislead their competition by knowingly yelling out the wrong answer. Fifth grade teacher Diego Fernandez filled the role of emcee and posed the first question of the night.
