U City Man Used Fake ID to Buy iPads, Laptops, Police Say

Police said the man used an ID with his own photo and another person's information.

A man stole $3,459 in merchandise from a Bridgeton store by using a fake ID with someone else’s vital information, police said. Tommie G. Roach, 31, of the 7400 block of Canton Avenue in University City, was charged Saturday with identity theft. Bridgeton Police said Roach used a fake drivers license with someone else’s information and his photo to steal $3,459 in electronic items from Best Buy, 12140 St. Charles Rock Road. Police said Roach bought two iPads and two laptop computers using the fake ID at 8:32 p.m. Saturday. Bail was set at $15,000 for Roach. He was released Sunday. Hi Laurie, The simplest solution would be to make an appointment at your local Apple Store. Their technical support is called the "Genius Bar" and appointments are free. If there is a repair that needs to be made, they quote it in advance. Just remember that you do need an appointment in advance. Walk-ins usually have to wait a while.   more ›

Holiday shoppers get ready! The holiday shopping season is getting underway. Trade in iPads, iPods, iPhones at Target

The Target in Brentwood is participating in the trade-in offer that gives customers a store credit for their used electronics.

If you have an iPod, iPhone or iPad that you are ready to get rid of, take it to Target and the store will give you a gift card in return for the device. The Brentwood Target store is participating in the trade-in offer.  Town and Country store staff tells Patch that customers can trade in online or in-stores. However, customers must work with a member of the Target Mobile staff if making the trade-in at the store, so check your local store for its hours.  According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Target is offering the deal at more than 1,450 retail locations through a partnership with NextWorth. The offer runs through Feb. 11. Hundreds of Items Collected at U City Electronics Recycling Event

Most people donated old outdated TVs and computers during Saturday's electronics recycling event.

A sea of TVs, DVDs, alarm clocks and computers blanketed the parking lot of Heman Park Community Center on Saturday. A line of cars wrapped around the facility as people waited their turn to drop off items during a free electronics recycling event sponsored by University City. Lynnette Hicks, Senior Public Works Programs Manager told University City Patch that by 11:30am Saturday, more than 100 cars had unloaded electronics. The event started at 10am and lasted until 2pm. Hicks said the most unusual item collected was a metal detector. Helping out at the event were teen-agers from the organization Boys Hope, located in Town and Country. University City Hosting Free Electronics Recycling Event

The free electronics recycling event will take place Saturday, November 5th at he Heman Park Community Center in University City.

University City is holding a free community electronics recycling collection this Saturday at Heman Park Community Center (975 Pennsylvania). The event is FREE and open to everyone in St. Louis, so it's the perfect opportunity to toss any old electronics in an environmentally friendly way. “It is possible to recycle old computers, printers and smart phones, rather than throw them into dumpsters. That’s why we’re holding this event – to make it easy and affordable for everyone to do the right thing,” said City Manager Lehman Walker in a news release. The electronics recycling event will be held Saturday, November 5th, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Heman Park Community Center located at 975 Pennsylvania Avenue, and is open to everyone …
