Solar Panels to Power New Space at Moonrise Hotel

The New Moon Room on the rooftop of the Moonrise opens in April.

A canopy of solar cells provides the power for St. Louis’ newest special event space. Overlooking the Delmar Loop neighborhood, the all-season New Moon Room will debut on the rooftop of the Moonrise Hotel in April 2013.   In an unusual twist, the roof’s 107 glass solar panels also act as a 2,100-square-foot ceiling for the New Moon Room. The frameless modules allow sunlight to filter through to guests in the special event space while providing enough energy – 33,000 kWh – to power all the needs of the new facility.   Microgrid Solar installed the glass solar panels, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. As always, lots going on in the food world around University City and the Delmar Loop. Vernon's BBQ is now open in University City. The barbecue joint, located at 6707 Vernon, is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. To see a menu, click here. New Menus Eclipse Restaurant will launch its winter menu on Friday, Dec. 21. To see the new items see the attached menus. Restaurant Roundup: New Menus, Relocations

The news and updates from our favorite places to eat in University City and the Delmar Loop.

Celebrity sightings, new menus and some closings to report. Jimmy Kimmel was in the St. Louis area over Thanksgiving weekend. While in town, he stopped by University City's own Winslow's Home. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Kimmel chowed down on a fish sandwich Saturday afternoon.  New Menus Eclipse Restaurant and Blueberry Hill have released their fall menus. To see the new items see the attached menus. Closings The Post-Dispatch is reporting that Hiro Sushi and 609 Lounge have closed. Hiro will reopen in 2013 on Washington Ave.  as Hiro Asian Kitchen, according to the Post story. On his Facebook page, proprietor Bernie Lee posted it was time to move on.
