University City Driver Charged With DWI, Assaulting State Trooper

A Missouri Highway Patrol report indicated Michael Montgomery refused to pull over, leading him on a chase from I-70 and I-270 into St. Charles and back.

A University City man faces criminal charges after Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper reported that he tried to stop the driver for weaving, and pursued his car from Interstate 70 at Interstate 270 into St. Charles County and back into St. Louis County. Michael Montgomery, 30, of the 800 block of Barkley Square in University City, was charged March 29 with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while intoxicated as a prior offender, driving without a license, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and failure to drive in a single lane. Montgomery eventually crashed his car on eastbound Pershall Road near New Halls Ferry Road, according to a court document. The trooper said in a report that Montgomery showed signs …

St. Louis County Drunk Driving Crackdown This Weekend

Police will conduct operation A.R.R.E.S.T. this weekend in St. Louis County to crack down on impaired driving.

Missouri State Highway Patrol officers made the announcement of the crackdown in a news release. According to the release, “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team) will take place in St. Louis County Saturday. The operation will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 3 a.m., Sunday. "The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition," the MSHP stated in the release. Six Missouri state troopers will be conducting the operation across the county this weekend. Sobriety Checkpoints Focus of County, State Police

Police officers will be checking motorists in an effort to reduce the number of intoxicated drivers on the streets and highways Aug. 17 through Sept. 3.

Drive sober or get pulled over. That's the message St. Louis County and other Missouri law enforcement agencies are passing along to motorists. From Aug. 17 through Sept. 3 those agencies will be cracking down on impaired drivers with statewide sobriety checkpoints and DWI saturation patrols. According to a news release, impaired driving contributes to nearly 30 percent of all Missouri traffic fatalities. The release stated that in 2011, 220 people were killed and 902 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver.  Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of a driver license, or being sentenced to use ignition interlocks.
