U City Police Blotter: A/C Pushed In, Copper Stolen

University City Police reports from the week of April 22-28.

Each week, University City Patch features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of April 22-28, 2013. The department arrested 61 adults and four juveniles. There were four burglaries and one car theft. Woman Stabs Husband In Neck, Fires Gun During Argument, Police Say

University City Police said Daryel L. Mueller also fired a shot in the couple's apartment April 24.

A University City woman faces criminal charges for stabbing her husband in the neck and firing a handgun in their apartment in the 800 block of Lepere Avenue in U City. Daryel A. Mueller, 31, was charged Thursday with first-degree domestic assault and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. University City Police said Mueller was arguing with her husband April 24 when she pulled out a Taurus 9 mm handgun, threatened him and fired a shot during the argument. When her husband started to leave, she stabbed him in the neck with a knife, police said. Police said the man got nine stitches in his neck at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. On Thursday, he returned home to retrieve some items, but Mueller pulled out the handgun and refused to allow him in, …

Man Flashed Stolen Gun in Eastgate Park, Police Say

University City Police said Timothy K. Brison fled from officers on Wednesday and threw the handgun away during a chase. Officers said they found the weapon after catching Brison.

A University City man faces several criminal charges after flashing a handgun in Eastgate Park, police said. University City Police said an officer, who was responding to a call that a man flourished a firearm on Monday, spotted Timothy K. Brison, who fit the description of the man for whom he was looking. When the officer approached Brison, he began running away, police said. The officer chased him into the 700 block of Rosedale Avenue. Another officer reported that he saw Brison throw away a weapon. After officers caught Brison, they retrieved the firearm, which had been reported stolen, according to a court document. KSDK: U City Security Guard Shoots Self

The guard was removing his gun from the holster when it fired.

A security guard from University City shot himself as he removed his gun from its holster Tuesday morning, KSDK is reporting. According to the report, University City Police officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Watts around 8:25 a.m. Tuesday. KSDK reports the victim was a security officer who was removing his weapon from the holster when it discharged. The unidentified victim was struck by the bullet, but did not suffer any serious or life threatening injuries, according to the report. To read the full KSDK story, click here.

Police: U City Man Exposed Himself and Grabbed Woman's Breast in Maplewood Commons Restroom

Maplewood detectives arrested the University City man on May 3.

The following information was supplied by the Maplewood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction Curtis Smith Jr., 31, of University City was arrested by Maplewood Police detectives on May 3, after warrants were issued by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Office for sexual misconduct in the first degree and sexual misconduct in the second degree.   On April 7,Smith entered the women’s restroom of a Maplewood Commons business where a female employee was cleaning.  Police say Smith exposed himself and grabbed the woman's breast without her consent.    Maplewood Police are working with another local agency because it is believed Smith may have committed other inappropriate acts at another …

Witness Prevents Man From Stealing Car After Purse, Keys Taken From Unlocked Vehicle

Milton L. Smith told University City Police gave him the stolen purse, and led them to stashed credit cards and a dumpster where he discarded stolen items.

A witness prevented a man from stealing a car after the owner had her purse, keys, cell phone and other items stolen from it. Milton L. Smith, 42, of the 5900 block of Page Avenue in Wellston, was charged Wednesday with receiving stolen property and attempted motor vehicle theft. University City Police said a woman reported her purse was stolen from her unlocked 2008 Toyota Highlander parked in the garage of her apartment building at about 6 p.m. April 29. The purse contained her keys, several credit cards and a BlackBerry cell phone. Police said a witness later saw Smith get into the Highlander and start it. The witness confronted Smith, who fled on foot. Smith later was arrested on the Washington University campus and police found he had…

Update: Dropped Child Had Skull Fractures, Brain Swelling

The infant was dropped by his father, according to University City Police.

The University City man charged with first-degree assault for dropping his infant son has previously been charged with injuring one of his children. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Jeremy M. Giles was charged in Jefferson County with endangering the welfare of a child.  The Post reports that Giles' one-month-old son was hospitalized on Oct. 9, 2011, after suffering two black eyes and extensive bruising. See previous story: U City Man Accused of Dropping, Injuring Infant Son The University City Police were called to St. Louis Children's Hospital on April 24 in regard to a suspected abuse case. The child had skull fractures and brain swelling, the Post reports. Giles is being held on a cash-only $200,000 bond.

U City Man Accused of Dropping, Injuring Infant Son

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Jeremy Giles, 25, is charged with assault.

A 4-month-old baby was dropped at home, causing serious injuries to the baby's head and torso.  According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the child's father, Jeremy M. Giles, 25, has been charged with assault in connection with his son's injuries. Giles lives on Balson Ave. in University City. The Post reports that the child was taken to St. Louis Children's Hospital April 24. U City Crime: Murders, Suspicious Death in April

Check out the round up of stories related to crime in University City during the month of April 2013.

Lots of crime involving University City residents took place outside of U City in April 2013. A U City man was charged in a murder in Jennings and another was charged with murder in Overland. Another man pled guilty to a 2009 murder. The University City Police Department also had a lot to contend with inside city limits.
