University City residents know how great our local businesses and restaurants are—now it's time to tell everyone else. Several Delmar Loop favorites are nominated for Alive Magazine awards. Grant to fund free studio experiences to St. Louis Public Schools.
Craft Alliance (CA) is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a $40,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund. Thanks to the generosity of the Monsanto Fund, more than 400 students throughout 14 St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) will be able to participate in CA’s ArtSmarts program. Filling a void in urban schools with under-funded arts curriculums, ArtSmarts is a unique educational arts program. Through the ArtSmarts program, students are introduced to contemporary craft, learn about the innovative use of materials, and are provided behind-the-scenes insight into the creation of craft. Craft Alliance (CA) announces the second year of its PNC Arts Alive Family Saturdaysprogram. Students and parents alike are invited to participate in this exciting, tuition-free introductory art experience that has been enabled by the generosity of the PNC Foundation, who donated $40,000 to CA to increase public arts access and promote community engagement within the arts. Each of the sessions takes place over the course of four consecutive Saturday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., at the CA Kranzberg Arts Center location. Registration for both fall sessions is now open. Three more sessions will be offered January – May 2013, giving more than two hundred people in the St. Louis area the opportunity to experience this unique art program. …

Craft Alliance (CA) is pleased to announce Charon Kransen, owner of the New York gallery Charon Kransen Arts, will be speaking Thursday at the Mildred Lane Kemper Museum at Washington University. The 6:30 pm. lecture will be held at the Mildred Lane Kemper Museum, Room 103. Kransen was born in Holland and now resides in New York City where he works as a curator, art-dealer and agent for over 150 international contemporary jewelers in North-America. He has also been working in the field of contemporary jewelry since 1969, after he received his training at the Bezalel Academy of Fine Arts Jerusalem Israel, Fachhochschule für Gestaltung Pforzheim, Germany, and at Juhls Kautokeino, Norway. Grant funds second year of PNC Arts Alive Free Saturdays at Craft Alliance.
Craft Alliance (CA) is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a $40,000 grant from PNC Arts Alive. PNC Arts Alive is a two-year, $1 million initiative from The PNC Foundation that supports visual and performing arts groups with the goal of increasing arts access and engagement in new and innovative ways. Seventeen arts organizations in the St. Louis area were selected for bold thinking around increasing arts access and engagement. With each session filled to capacity, reaching 220 parents and children, PNC Arts Alive Free Saturdays at Craft Alliance had an incredibly successful first year. Craft Alliance (CA) is pleased to announce the opening reception of Metal Speaks: The Art of the Narrative from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 4 at CA’s Delmar Loop Gallery. The exhibition, which runs through June 17, features a select group of well established metalsmiths who tell stories through their artwork. The eleven exhibiting artists include Sangsook Park, Marilyn da Silva, Jung-Hoo Kim, Lin Stanionis, Jack da Silva, Namu Cho, Kee-Ho Yuen, Helen Shirk, Joe Muench, Komelia Okim, Kye-Yeon Son. Thanks to this generous award from the Monsanto Fund, CA is able to provide ArtSmarts programming to more than 400 students throughout 14 St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS). Artsmarts is an outreach program that fills a void in urban schools with under-funded arts curriculums. Students engage in hands-on education in ceramics, metalsmithing, glass, fiber art and graphic art, which helps promote creative problem solving and spatial reasoning skills unique to the craft disciplines.
