Feasibility Study Focus of Next Loop Media Hub Meeting

An informational presentation about the ambitious project is slated for Thursday.

A feasibility study about a proposed plan to help the Loop become a high-tech media hub will be presented at an informational meeting from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Center of Creative Arts Black Box Theatre.  The presentation follows a series of public meetings that were held in the past several months that discussed various aspects of the project, formally known as the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plan.  A group of stakeholders including the cities of University City and St. Louis, St. Louis County, the University City Chamber of Commerce, Washington University, COCA and the Regional Arts Commission commissioned the study. Regional Arts Commission Awards $2.9 Million in Grants

For arts and cultural organizations and programs in the St. Louis area.

The Regional Arts Commission (RAC), the area’s largest annual funder of the arts dedicated to the cultivation, promotion and fostering of cultural programming in the St. Louis region, has awarded 186 grants totaling more than $2.9 million to support nonprofit arts and cultural organizations, consortiums, and programs in the St. Louis area. Since it was created in 1985, RAC has awarded more than 5,800 grants totaling more than $76 million. “I’m delighted that the amount we awarded in grants has increased by 6.7 percent from last year,” said Jill McGuire, executive director of RAC. “We look forward to a robust future for arts and culture in St. Louis.” Each grant request is carefully reviewed and discussed in an open, public forum by citizen…

The Office’s Ellie Kemper Wows Wash U. Crowd

Kemper spoke Thursday before being the celebrity guest at COCAcabana Friday night.

It's not every day that a rising star claims to have peaked in high school, but The Office star and St. Louis native Ellie Kemper did just that. Kemper told guests at the Washington University Women’s Society Adele Starbird Lecture Thursday that the high point of her career was studying under Mad Man star Jon Hamm. Hamm taught at his alma mater John Burroughs School before heading for Hollywood. Kemper was one of Hamm's high school drama students. "The peak for me was in ninth grade performing for Mr. Hamm," Kemper laughingly told the crowd. She and Hamm were reunited last year as co-stars in the hit movie Bridesmaids. A Gala Evening in University City

COCAcabana and the Green Ball bring out an array of do-gooders to the Delmar Loop Friday night.

The starts were out Friday night on the Delmar Loop in supporting two great causes. The Center of Creative Arts (COCA) held its annual fundraiser, COCAcabana, at Washington University Music Center and the Green Ball was held at the Moonrise Hotel. COCAcabana 2012 COCAcabana is COCA's annual signature spring fundraiser. COCAcabana is known for its creative themes that are uniquely COCA.  Funds raised at COCAcabana support COCA's multidisciplinary programs including the COCA Family Theatre Series, educational classes and workshops in dance, music, drama, and visual arts for all ages, and contemporary art exhibits in the Millstone Gallery.
