The Clayton Fire Department hosted the training last week.
A fire in a high rise building is a rare occurrence, but area firefighters spent last week training for just such an occasion. The Clayton Fire Department hosted a high angle rope rescue class for firefighters from Clayton, Brentwood, Crestwood, Frontenac, Kirkwood, Maplewood, University City and St. Louis City. The firefighters learned how to rescue people from high places using rescue ropes. The event honors fallen public servants.
The Thirty-Sixth Annual Uniform Day Memorial Ceremony was held Friday, May 10 behind Police Headquarters in Clayton. Participating in the program were a police and fire honor guard, a police rifle squad and the St. Louis County Police Pipes and Drums. The traditional ceremony consisted of the posting of colors, a roll call of the deceased and a 16 volley shotgun salute. Several police and fire departments from around the St. Louis area participated in the ceremony. According to a press release, the wearing of dress uniforms by all commissioned personnel, regardless of assignment, serves as a visual affirmation of the commitment of these public safety providers to their chosen profession. OHOP, already a hit in Chesterfield, comes to Colonial Marketplace in Clayton and Ladue.
Pancake purists rejoice! There is now another Original Pancake House in the St. Louis area. The owner of the popular Chesterfield pancake house opened its second location May 1 in Colonial Markeplace. The new location sits in the shopping center that straddles the Clayton/Ladue border. It is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Gordon Manus, owner of Original Pancake House in Chesterfield, previously told Patch he invested $900,000 to open his second St. Louis area restaurant. The look is similar to the Chesterfield spot, known for its rustic look. "There will be timber wood and pine walls, a big fire place and sky lights," he said. "It’s really nice-looking. The lights will be on red flash until they are repaired.
The traffic signals at the intersection of Clayton and Skinker are on red flash, slowing traffic in the area. An accident damaged the lights and St. Louis Street Department crews are working to repair the lights. Two men have been charged following a police chase that ended in a crash Wednesday on Skinker Blvd, tying up rush hour traffic. Quoting from the KSDK story: The two suspects were caught Wednesday after a police pursuit ended in a crash. The pursuit started around 3 p.m. Wednesday at Benton and N. Commuters can expect traffic delays near Forest Park and Skinker after a police pursuit ended in the area. According to Fox 2, two suspects are in custody after the pursuit ended in a crash. The pursuit started around 3 p.m. Wednesday at Benton and N. Jefferson, Fox 2 reports, and ended at Forest Park and Skinker. During the pursuit, a patrol car was involved in an accident with a vehicle. Two of the occupants in that vehicle suffered injuries. There is no information yet on the extent of their injuries. The fire broke out at a home in the 6400 block of Cecil Avenue around 4 a.m. Friday.
A home in Clayton went up in flames early Friday morning, but officials report all the residents made it out safely. The Clayton Fire Department battled a a two-alarm at a two-story home in the 6400 block of Cecil Avenue. The fire reportedly started around 4:30 a.m. According to KMOV, crews from Shrewsbury, Richmond Heights, Brentwood Fire Department and Ladue fire departments assisted in the containing the flames. Clayton Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Paul V. Mercurio said University City Fire Department, Webster and City of St. Louis crews also assisted with the blaze. KMOX is holding auditions to find a sports correspondent to report from Jupiter, FL this March. According to KMOX, the sports correspondent will have the opportunity to conduct interviews with players and coaches, report back on KMOX and be featured on the station's web site.
