The Akin campaign is rallying supporters by highlighting actor Jamie Foxx's weekend comments about President Obama.
It is nearly a month after voters went to the polls and elected Missouri U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill to a second term over U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, but actor Jamie Foxx has become something of a campaign talking point in the race. The last few iterations of this column have noted how several candidates for the U.S. Senate utilized creative means to entice fundraising efforts. For instance, Rep. Todd Akin (R-Wildwood) used his rhetorical scuffle with President Barack Obama over student loans in a fundraising pitch. And Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) has directly attacked third-party organizations that are pre-emptively attacking the incumbent lawmaker as she makes a difficult bid for re-election. McCaskill’s campaign staff continued on a creative path in an email that was sent to supporters earlier this week. A look at how candidates for city council in University City are spending their money.
Nothing comes for free and that includes running for office. In addition to raising money, candidates from school board to president of the United States are required to file campaign finance reports. Candidates for city council, like those running in the April 3 University City municipal election, are required to file reports with the Saint Louis County Elections Board and Missouri Ethics Commission. Those reports must be filed 40 days, 30 days and 8 days prior to the election by the campaign committees. These are public records available upon request.
