The department arrested 47 adults and four juveniles. There were three burglaries and one attempted car theft. The reporting party noticed that the inner part of the dead bolt lock of the back door had been pulled out of place. Entry was not gained. The reporting party witnessed a man peering into the window of neighbor's house. Upon arrival, the officers were notified the alarm at the residence had been activated. In Des Peres last week, a handful of cars and homes were burglarized in a residential neighborhood—a serious enough "spree" that the city blasted an email and text alert to the neighborhoods. As it happens, the burglar got into some unlocked cars, used the garage door opener and walked into a pair of houses in which the inside door was not locked. The report brought on this comment from a reader: "A person would not lock their car outside overnight (or anytime) because? And with a home garage door opener and valuables inside? Brandon L. Moore is being charged with first-degree burglary and misdemeanor theft after police say he was found inside a University Home by a homeowner.
A man is accused of burglary after a University City resident found him in his home on April 18. Brandon L. Moore, 31, of the 1100 block of Backer Street in University City, was charged April 19 with first-degree burglary, misdemeanor stealing and stealing a credit card. University City Police said the resident heard a noise at his front door about 6:40 a.m. on April 18 and went inside to find Moore standing in his home. The resident confronted Moore and told him to leave, police said. Minutes later, he realized he was missing a credit card and $45 from his wallet and his front door had been pried open. University City Police said Breeanna E. Eaton and another person broke into three U City homes in February and March.
A Maplewood woman is accused of participating in three burglaries in University City in February and March. Breeanna E. Eaton, 27, of the 7600 block of Jerome Avenue in Maplewood, was charged Monday with three counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of felony stealing and one count of misdemeanor stealing. University City Police said Eaton and another person entered three U City homes and stole several items: Police said Eaton went to each of the three locations with another person, allowed her car to be used in the burglaries and shared in money gained from selling the items. University City Police said the Overland man stole a rifle, TV, two knives and collectible coins.
An Overland man was accused of breaking into a University City home between March 14 and March 18 and stealing several items. John Hamby, 27, of the 2300 block of Hood Avenue in Overland, was charged Saturday with second-degree burglary, stealing a firearm and felony theft. University City Police said Hamby entered a home in the 1200 block of Mount Olive Avenue in U City and stole a rifle, a Sony television, two knives and collectible coins. A witness identified Hamby’s car, according to court documents. Hamby is being held in St. Louis County Justice Center. Bail was set at $40,000. Agreed. Just because a thief or vandal else clearly does wrong, does not mean the victim is necessarily "right" or blameless. It also doesn't mean they have equal blame or most of it. Such black and white thinking on this board. Sometimes victims couldn't have done anything better. Sometimes we can all learn something from the situation...like locking things up and keeping valuables out of sight.   more ›
