University City Teen Charged As Adult in Burglaries

Kyren Chunn is charged with four burglaries, one of them while he was 14 years old. Chunn was charged as an adult after being charged with committing a burglary after he turned 17.

A 17-year-old University City resident faces charges in four burglaries, one of them dating back to when he was 14 years old. Kyren Chunn, 17, of the 7800 block of Birchmont Avenue in University City, was charged Thursday with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of theft. Those charges are for incidents in 2010 and 2011 when Chunn was 14 and 15 years old. They were filed after Chunn was charged in September for two first-degree burglaries and two felony thefts on July 17, after he turned 17 years old. In Missouri, people are automatically tried as adults once they turn 17. University City Police said Chunn acted as a lookout March 16, 2010 as two other people entered a building in the 1300 block of 82nd Boulevard and stole …

Each week, University City Patch features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of Nov. 12-18. The department arrested 54 adults and seven juveniles. There was one robbery and seven burglaries. The reporting party stated unknown person(s) entered the lower level basement of the apartment building and removed copper piping.* During an area canvass, officers discovered an insecure rear door and damage to the door and stole copper piping.* The reporting party stated a male subject had taken his phone off the table outside of the restaurant. It was determined that the suspect who stole the phone was in the restaurant with another subject just before the incident occurred. A …

Weird Crime: Thief Steals Van That Needs Tires, Gas

A round up of recent unusual and odd crimes in the St. Louis area.

Stolen Van Needed Gas, Tires A Ferguson man is facing criminal charges for stealing a van that not only needed gas, but apparently tires as well. He also was charged with stealing eight tires from Dobbs Tire and Auto. Florissant Police said the man stole a 1994 GMC conversion van from a Johnny Londoff Chevrolet lot sometime between July 29 and Aug. 1. The van belonged to an employee at the car dealership. Police said man also broke into Dobbs Tire and Auto, and stole eight tires valued at $1,593. He was identified through surveillance tapes at Dobbs and at a Quik Trip gas station where he bought gas for the van, according to court documents. Each week, University City Patch features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of Aug. 13-19. The department arrested 35 adults and two juveniles.  There were two burglaries, one attempted burglary and two auto thefts. The victim stated person(s) unknown stole her vehicle. The vehicle is described as a 1998 brown/gray Dodge Intrepid, license plate no. MO 14 "DJ4C7J". The victim stated person(s) unknown, by unknown means, gained entry into his apartment and stole various items. A resident of the building was arrested for burglary. City Council Demands Answers to 'Crime Wave'

Council member Byron Price asks for better solutions to recent shootings and burglaries in University City.

Shots fired Friday night. A rash of burglary attempts and home break-ins. A drive-by shooting, mobs in the Loop and a the murder of a 16 year old near University City High School.  It's been a busy summer for the University City Police Department.  University City Councilman Byron Price, Ward 3, on Monday asked that City Manager Lehman Walker and Police Chief Charles Adams look into the city's crime statistics for the year and whether the police department needs more resources. "This issue is bigger than just the police department and my concern is that there is a pattern of activity taking place," Price said. "The progression of activity is totally out of control." Each week, University City Patch features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of July 16-22. The department arrested 66 adults and five juveniles.  There was one robberies and six burglaries.  The victim stated he was sitting on his motorcycle on the shoulder of Forest Park Parkway when two suspects approached and tried to rob him. The victim struggled with one of the suspects as they tried unsuccessfully to get on his motorcycle. A black male, 20, was arrested for Robbery. A second suspect, 19, is listed as Wanted. Each week, University City Patch features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of May 7-13. The department arrested 63 adults and five juveniles. There were two burglaries, a robbery and one attempted auto theft. Person(s) unknown gained entry into Brouster Construction by damaging the rear door. The suspect(s) stole an electric paint sprayer. A witness stated he observed a black male, aged 25-35, slight beard, dark complexion, attempting to push the victim's scooter from where it was parked.
