A Delicious Irish Feast Using Beer as a Key Recipe Ingredient

Please share your favorite "cooking with beer" recipe.

Irish Ale Biscuits with Cheddar and Chives Preheat oven to 450. Cover large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In large bowl, combine flour and sugar; whisk to blend well. Add butter, shortening and cheese. Cut in with a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in chives. Gradually stir in ale with fork, until a soft, sticky dough forms. Place dough on floured surface and knead four or five times, just until dough comes together. Roll into 9 x 6 inch rectangle; fold into thirds and pat or roll dough until 1/2-inch thick. Using a floured 2 1/2- inch round cutter cut out biscuits. Gather loose scraps of dough and re-roll until all dough is used. Place biscuits on prepared baking sheet. Bake in hot oven…

Realignment of State Senate Boundaries Ruffles Feathers in St. Louis County

Jim Lembke (R-Lemay) and John Lamping (R-Ladue) also saw significant changes. If this sounds familiar, that's because the map had to be redrawn after the original document was declared unconstitutional. More analysis will surely come over the next days and weeks. For now, the map is subject to a 15-day public comment period. News on Statewide Races With the August primaries still on the horizon, a pair of statewide …

The great mystery that has perplexed University City residents since last October has been solved, Riddles Penultimate Café & Wine Bar is no more and a new restaurant, Three Kings will inhabit the venerable space at 6307 Delmar beginning March 15. Derek Flieg, the former bar manager at Riddles, along with Ryan Pinkston and Derek Deaver, (owners of Deaver's Bar & Grill) have always wanted to own their own restaurant. St. Louis County constituents voted in favor of the ban in 2009. The law goes into effect on Jan. 2. For better or for worse, this legislation will change the way Delmar Loop taverns and restaurants do business. Blueberry Hill has literally laid the foundation for an outdoor heated smoking area. Construction workers have poured the concrete and erected wooden beams for the add-on, which will be adjacent to the dart room. "It's going to be a good alternative to standing on the street," said Tommy Schoch, one of Blueberry Hill's bar managers. The heated area will be …

Here is how I feel about smoking in general...Life insurance companies do blood work for a certain level of insurance coverage. I needed to have this done and I came up as a heavy smoker. I never smoked a day in my life! I was at a bar on a Friday night and was tested on a TUESDAY and still came up this way. Wow is all I can say. I am happy to see this ban come into play. I will go out MUCH more …   more ›
