Justice Delayed: Lacy Clay Jumps Into George Allen Fray With Attorney General

The congressman asks Attorney General Chris Koster to "no longer stand in the way of justice," and to "allow this innocent man to return to his family."

Congressman William “Lacy” Clay sent Chris Koster a letter expressing his extreme disappointment with the Attorney General’s appealing a decision that overturns George Allen’s murder conviction. Clay wrote: “I am deeply troubled by your decision to appeal Cole County Circuit Judge Daniel Green’s decision to void the convictions of George Allen. As you know, Mr. Allen is a mentally ill black man who was wrongfully convicted in 1982 and has spent the last thirty years incarcerated for crimes of which he is actually innocent. “I am astonished by your decision to appeal and to ask for a stay of Mr. Allen’s release.” Allen, of University City, was convicted in 1983 of the rape and murder of Mary Bell in the LaSalle neighborhood in St. Louis. …

Martin Bows Out Of Congressional Race

Martin to challenge Chris Koster in bid for Missouri Attorney General.

Two days after a Webster Groves doctor made the 2nd Congressional district Republican primary a three candidate race, the contest is back down to two in the running. Thursday morning, St. Louis attorney Ed Martin announced he would drop out of the GOP primary for Congress and instead challenge Chris Koster to become the state's top lawyer. Feeding off of his near-victory against Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis) in 2010, Martin had support in his bid to succeed Rep. Todd Akin (R-Wildwood), but has lagged considerably in fundraising compared to former RNC Co-Chair Ann Wagner, who has also lined up endorsements from national Republican figures, including John Ashcroft, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Former Arkansas Governor and …
