Viewfinder: Volunteers Hack Honeysuckle at Heman Park

A handful of volunteers removed honeysuckle from Heman Park on Saturday.

"We're out here doing what we can," said AmeriCorps volunteer Theodore Smith as he joined a handful of people for Saturday's Honeysuckle Hack at Heman Park.

Smith, an AmeriCorps volunteer with the River des Peres Watershed Coalition, said Bush Honeysuckle is a species native to Eastern Asia, which grows easily and spreads easier. He said the problem is that it crowds out a lot of native plants.

Saturday, the volunteers removed honeysuckle along the River des Peres  - with the long-term goal to replace the Honeysuckle with native plants.
