6 Year Old to Host Charity Lemonade, Cupcake Stand

The event, which will benefit Pedal for the Cause, will be held Wednesday in front of Robust Wine Bar from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Over the last three years 6-year-old Molly Browne, University City, has had three family members diagnosed with cancer.

That's why she's decided to hold to benefit Pedal for the Cause, a St. Louis-area cycling event which raises money for cancer research, grants and clinical translational care.

"I'm doing it because some people in my family have cancer, and all the money raised for Pedal the Cause stays in the St. Louis area," Molly said. "Plus, I've never done a lemonade stand before and think it will be fun."

Molly's parents, Arlene and Stanley Browne, own Robust. Arlene told Patch she's been involved with Pedal the Cause since it was founded in 2009. She said two of her sisters are breast cancer survivors and her nephew has leukemia.

"I think Molly decided to hold the stand to benefit Pedal the Cause because she saw me really get involved with the race," Arlene said. "The event began around the same time my sisters were diagnosed with breast cancer."

Arlene said she is very proud of Molly for coming up with the idea on her own.

"In the summer kids talk about what they're going to do with their time off," she said. "Some go on vacations or summer camps and Molly said, 'I want to hold a lemonade stand to benefit Pedal the Cause'."
