Patch Picks: Events, Happenings July 9-13

Here's what's happening in University City, Ladue and Clayton this week.

University City Patch teams up with neighboring Patch sites each week to round up events and happenings in the area. Here are our picks for this week.

Monday, July 9

  • Kids in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to the St. Louis County Library Headquarters on Tuesday to meet Louie, the St. Louis Blues mascot. Beginning at 11 a.m., Louie will read a story. After the show, he’ll sign autographs and pose with kids for photos. Learn more at the library’s website.

Wednesday, July 11

  • is holding a general open house on Wednesday. Freshmen and general inquirers should attend between 10 a.m. and noon. You’ll be able to tour the campus, meet the faculty and students, learn about financial aid and scholarship opportunities, check out academic programs, sports and more. Plus, you’ll get a free lunch.   • It’s time for Parties in the Park in downtown Clayton. On Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., enjoy a free concert and party and an ice cold beverage while you socialize with friends and colleagues or meet new people. This week’s performers are My Friend Mike, a band of six musicians, and R.J. Shay, an illustrator, designer and educator. Learn more at the Parties in the Park website.
  • The University City Urban Forestry Commission will meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Traffic Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m.
  • University City’s Movies in the Park features “Akeelah & the Bee” this week. The movie starts at 9 p.m. in , and the event is free and open to the public.

  • Archway is hosting a St. Louis Cocktail and Networking event on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the in Clayton. The free event offers drinks, hors d’oeuvres and opportunities to socialize with your fellow wealth management colleagues.   • The Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at invites the community to attend its Summer Friday Panel Series. Discussions will equip attendees with knowledge about starting, building and sustaining new enterprises. Saturday, July 14

  • The Young Friends Committee is hosting an evening of comedy to benefit Gateway to Hope. Admission price includes cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and the funniest entertainment in town. You’ll also have the opportunity to win a number of raffle items. Tickets are $40 if purchased by Friday, or $50 on Saturday. Learn more and register at the group’s website.
  • Learn the simplicity and beauty of pinhole photography at the on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop will teach you how to make a pinhole camera from a shoe box, cookie tin or even a toy.
