Heman Park Pool Celebrates 80th Anniversary

The pool in Heman Park will have specials all day long Thursday

Happy Birthday Heman Park Pool! The City of University City’s Heman Park Pool, located at 7210 Olive Blvd, is celebrating 80 years in operation this year. 

To commemorate the milestone, The University City Department of Community Development-Recreation Division has organized a number of activities. Since Thursday, May 30 is the official anniversary date, refreshments and take-home items will be available for patrons throughout the day.

During lap swim, 6-8 a.m., each swimmer will receive a commemorative cup. There will also be refreshments provided by Bread Company. 

During public swim, noon – 8 p.m., adult swimmers will receive a commemorative ID card holder and youth swimmers will receive a Heman Park beach ball (while supplies last). 

A free soda, a commemorative cup and refreshments will also be provided during public swim for each person at the pool.

“Heman Park Pool is a community treasure and has been enjoyed be residents and nonresidents alike since 1933,” Lynda Euell-Taylor, Deputy Director of Recreation. “The residents who helped hand-dig Heman Park pool in the early 1930’s would be proud to see the pool thriving today. The pool is a big part of University City’s history and we are justifiably proud of it.”  

A banner, photographs and news clippings focusing on the pool will be displayed throughout the entire swim season. In conjunction with the celebration, four raffles will occur on theJune 30, July 30, Aug. 30 and Sept. 2. 

Raffle items include commemorative folding chairs with carry bags for adults and commemorative teddy bears for youth. Three of each item will be awarded each drawing.
