Dine Out, Eat Tomatoes, Help the Hungry

Operation Food Search to benefit from July restaurant campaign.

, FEAST Magazine and 36 local restaurants are partnering for a delicious restaurant campaign throughout the entire month of July. Participating restaurants have each created a special tomato-themed dish to feature on their menu, and each time the dish is sold during this month-long campaign, Operation Food Search will receive a share of the proceeds to help feed the area hungry.

“The creativity and generosity of our restaurant community is amazing,” says Sunny L. Schaefer, executive director of Operation Food Search. “With the explosion of tomatoes climbing the vine in July, we are celebrating the peak of their flavor with FEAST and area restaurants as they highlight the key ingredient of the Operation Food Search logo – the Tomato! We invite the community to join us to in celebrating this month of tomato goodness for people in need of basic, daily sustenance.”

Operation Food Search was established in 1981 to address the growing problem of hunger and has since become the largest distributor of free food in the bi-state area. The organization distributes more than two million pounds of food and household items to 250 community partner agencies which in turn feed 150,000 poor people each month, nearly one-third of whom are children. For every dollar donated by individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations, OFS provides $22 worth of food and nutrition services to support the hungry.
