Racism At Flynn Park Elementary School

I am writing because I am tired on of the racism that is rampant at Flynn Park Elementary School.

From the day that it was decided to merge Delmar-Harvard Elementary School with Flynn Park, there has been little effort on the part of school officials (at Flynn Park as well as at the Administration and Board levels) to address this situation properly.

As the new redistricting borders clearly indicate, a major effort was made to keep the "upper echelon" of University City students at Flynn Park. Unfortunately, that same effort was not put forth to ensure the sanity and emotional safely of the remaining students in the districts that would be transferred due to school closings. For those of you that are not familiar with the history of Flynn Park Elementary School, this is a school that, at one point, attempted to annex itself to the Clayton School District. The aloof attitude is still strong at the school. Even after school activities are affected, since an activity bus is only available one day a week. This means that, if your child wants to participate in any extra-curricular activities, they are limited to those activities that occur on Wednesday. That is, unless they are from a family that has someone available to pick them up following the activity.

How is it that opportunities are not equally available for all students at Flynn Park? Also, one other very important thought: Why is the science teacher still at Flynn Park after striking a student last year? Although a number of students witnessed this action, she is still at the school. Perhaps, when her actions cause physical injury to one of the more "preferred" students, the powers that be will actually pay attention.

I am a lifetime resident of University City, and it is becoming more and more of a struggle to justify the continuance of maintaining a residence here.
