University City Football Team Faces Webster In Coaching Reunion

Four of the University City High School coaches played under Webster coach Cliff Ice, and the matchup between the teams will bring the former team members and coach together as competitors as the Lions look to post their first win of the young season.

When University City heads to Webster for both teams' second football game of the 2011 season on Friday night, they will will meet up against a Statesmen squad coached by Cliff Ice, who also coached four of the Lions coaches in the 1990s.

"Coach Ice knows we understand the offense he runs, and he’s a mentor, but it’s not a rivalry because we have not won against Webster in a long time...we want to make it a rivalry," said University City coach Carl Reed.

Hopes for that first win against Webster, and the first on the season, are potentially a long shot since the Statesmen are not only a top-ranked local team but are coming off a trouncing of McCluer last Friday in their season opener.
