Bicyclists Battle it Out at Heman Park in U City

Cyclocross racing combines the speed of road bike races with the terrain of mountain bike events by adding hurdles and uphill climbs.

And they're off!

The inaugural Gateway Cross Cup bicycle race got underway Wednesday afternoon at Heman Park in University City. Bicyclists from from across the U.S. and Europe are competing for prize money and coveted ranking points.

The amateur races kicked off at 1:30pm. The professional events occur in the evening under the lights with the women’s race at 7:50pm and the men’s race at 9:00pm. The competition will go on until 10pm tonight (Wednesday). For spectators there is a beer tent and at least one food truck (Pi).
