Washington University Mourns Passing of Dean James McLeod

James McLeod, the vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences died Tuesday after following complications of a long illness that he fought for several years.

Washington University's vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, James Earl McLeod, passed away Tuesday, according to Wash U Chancellor Mark Wrighton.

He died after a long battle with cancer, reports Student Life.

In a letter to the university community, Chancellor Wrighton said the university lost, "one of its greatest citizens and leaders."

"No single individual has had a greater impact on the vitality and the quality of student life at this university. Jim was truly a man of wisdom, compassion, and steadfast loyalty to the university," said Wrighton.

The university will lower the flag on Brookings Hall to half staff.
