Wash U's Delmar Loop Project Praised as Green Construction

Green Building & Design Magazine recently praised the green construction practices which are part of Washington University's $80 million redevelopment project in the Delmar Loop.

Washington University broke ground in early February on the student apartment and retail project. The 4.4-acre residential and retail development project includes 22,000 square feet of new retail space.

In all, the development will include five new buildings, with apartments for about 600 undergraduate students and 22,000 square feet of new retail space.

The mixed-use development, to be built on existing university-owned property, will be between Delmar and Enright to the north and flanked by Westgate and Eastgate avenues.

The magazine notes several green building practices, including a "wall system with high-performance glazing that will offer strong insulation and solar heat gain properties."

The site also will include rain gardens and is slated to be built to a minimum LEED Silver standard.
