Wash U Investing $30 Million in Sustainability, Conservation

The effort was announced Wednesday evening.

Washington University in St. Louis held a press conference Wednesday to announce a $30 million conservation and sustainability project. 

The investment will include 60 energy conservation projects at both the Danforth campus and the Washington University Medical School campus, according to Wash U. 

Hank Webber, executive vice chancellor for administration, said the university's efforts are projected to "reduce emissions by more than 50,000 metric tons of CO2 and save $5.4 million annually.

Julian Hicks, the 2012-13 student union president, said that students had a responsibility to preserve the campus. He is leading a "Less is More" campaign to cut down on emissions and energy usage by doing the 'little things'—riding bikes, reusing/recycling and turning off lights.
