University City School District Picks Up Eighth Accreditation Point

The district picked up the additional point in the career education/vocational courses category.

The University City School District has secured an eighth accreditation point.

Superintendent of Schools Joylynn Pruitt said after a state review of the preliminary data from the Annual Performance Report, University City picked up the additional point in the career education/vocational courses category.

"It is quite significant," said Pruitt. "It takes us closer to gaining additional points." To be fully accredited, a district must meet 9-14 of the standards, to receive provisional accreditation, the district must meet 6-9 standards.

However, despite having only 8 points, U City remains fully accredited, said Pruitt.

"Those numbers only affect accreditation when you are subject to a state review...so, until we're reviewed again we absolutely remain fully accredited," said District Communications Director Linda Russell Wesley . "We certainly hope that at the time of our next review we will have the points in place," Wesley added.

The state waived the review for University City schools this year, as the district works to implement academic reforms.
