University City Lions Flex Muscle at Friday Jamboree

The football mixer included teams from Hazelwood West, Marquette, University City and Howell Central.

Football jamborees always have been a way for coaches, players, fans and reporters to get a preseason assessment on just how good — or bad — our high school teams are.

Judging from Friday's Preseason Jamboree at CBC, it looks as if aerial play and gang-tackling will be central to team, while the Hazelwood West squad has the speed to play on the outside and bring the ball up the field.

 used the shotgun formation Friday, which gave its quarterbacks more time to find the big receivers down field.

The day wasn't without its fair share of mishaps. There were some dropped passes, fumbles and yellow flags, but there also were some spectacular catches and outside runs that will have opposing coaches scratching their heads in search of the right method to shut down some talented offensive lines.
