University City Hires New High School Principal

Michael Maclin comes to the district from Maplewood-Richmond Heights.

The School District of University City has hired Michael Maclin as the principal of for the 2012-2013 school year. Maclin will officially begin the position on July 1, but he will participate in planning activities prior to his official start date. 

"It is my honor to serve this historically rich community as the principal of University City High School,” said Maclin. "I am anxious to meet students, parents, faculty, and community members. Together, I believe we can develop a school that not only prepares students academically, but also supports the growth of the whole person with positive social, athletic, and high school experiences.:

Maclin has 12 years of experience in education, most recently as an assistant principal at . He also served one year as the interim principal at . Prior to becoming an administrator, he worked as a guidance counselor and social studies teacher.

The Board of Education approved the superintendent’s recommendation to hire Maclin at a special executive session on Thursday, March 8. Maclin was among 50 nationwide candidates who applied to the posting for a high school principal.

"Mr. Maclin’s passion for education and strategic approach to change is clear from the minute you meet him," said Joylynn Pruitt, superintendent of schools. "He has proven experience cultivating collaborative relationships with staff and identifying solutions to complex problems. I’m confident that his commitment to motivating students and fostering an active learning environment for students and staff will have a significant impact at University City High School."

University City High School has been under the leadership of Interim Principal Dayle Burgdorf this year. 

University City High School Principal Tim Wernentin was  Feb. 24, 2011. He was in March of 2011.

Wernentin was hired as the principal of Rock Island (IL) High School in April 2011.
