UCHS State Latin Champs

University City Latin students shined at this weekend's state Latin Convention.

The University City High School Latin Club picked up "a ton of awards" at this weekend's state Latin convention (Missouri Junior Classical League), according to UCHS Latin Teacher, Jennifer Ice.

The most prestigious award the group nabbed was the Advanced Certamen (Latin Quiz Bowl) Champions. Students defeated SLUH in the very first round of competition, and went on to defeat Desmet and then Pembroke Hill, and then finally defeated MICDS in the final round. The team, consisting of Elliot Wilson, Ethan Farber, Anna Soifer, and Daniel Politte has worked hard all year, said Ice.

"We've studied every "B" lunch and most every "C" lunch as well--and these kids really deserved to win. I am so unbelievably proud of them," Ice stated.

Additionally, Ethan Farber was elected state Parliamentarian. Ethan, Grace Deitzler, and Matthew Robinson all received scholarships to attend the National Junior Classical League Convention this summer.

Great job, everyone! The Latin club worked incredibly hard to prepare for MOJCL, and it's amazing to see such astounding success. Kudos to Ms. Ice for being an incredible inspiritation to all of her students, and to the students themselves for showing so much dedication. (And though this isn't exactly politically correct, there is something VERY satisfying about U. City's landslide Certamen victories against four of Missouri's best private schools.)
